The Beta Gamma Chapter of Alpha Gamma Rho is very active throughout the community of Platteville and the surronding area. Each fall, the Brothers ofAlpha Gamma Rho assist the Platteville Jaycees with their Haunted House. We build half of the haunted house with Sigma Alpha and the Jaycees build the other half. But not only do we build it, we work at it and scare whenever it is open. Every night that it the Haunted House is open, 15 brothers volunteer to scare. After Halloween is over, we help the Jaycees take down the Haunted House.
The Beta Gamma Chapter also participates in the Platteville St. Mary's Cathloic Church Irish Festival. Our brothers do a wide variety of tasks including setting up tables in chairs, washing dishes, serving food, and waiting on the people that attend the festival. The brother also help the church member reorganize the basement after the event is completed.
We also do work with the Platteville Arborteum, cleaning trails and making sure it is well kept up. Every weekend, 10 brothers take a trip to the Arborteum to make sure that the area is still presentable.
Starting in the Fall of 2011, the brothers of Alpha Gamma Rho walked in the Platteville/Dubuque Crop Walk put on by the First Evangelical Church. Besides donating money, the chapter had numerous brothers that walk 3 miles and helped raise money to fight against Hunger.
For the past 10 years, the brothers of Alpha Gamma Rho have donated their time to clean a portion on 151 between Platteville, WI and Dubuqe, IA as part of the Wisconsin Department of Highway Adopt a Highway Program. Once a semester, between 15 & 20 brothers make sure their section ofthe highway is looking sharp.
Alpha Gamma Rho is always looking to do more community service in the Platteville Area. If you are interested in having AGR's help, contact VNR-Public Relations Officer Tjark Sattler by email at sattlert@uwplatt.edu.
